Elgin Writers

Jen Butler and Jacklin Murray from the SAW visited us on 11th May as part of the SAW outreach programme. They adjudiacted our competition 'Castles in the Air' and ran a writing workshop on morality in fiction.
The opening line was 'I have no regrets...' The work was to be about a person who was convicted of a terrible crime, they were found to be guilty. In the allotted ten minutes the Members were asked to write his defence and maybe the cause for the action taken by the prisoner.
Each was read out by a different Member and comments were made as to the morality which was portrayed in the story. A different exercise, thought provoking
Characters within a story were discussed and it was suggested that there has to be a balance within each character. Characters drive a story forward. Judgements are required to be made as a story is written. Ensure that there are no ‘empty moves'

Competition results - 1st - Leslie Gladman with 'Brief Encounters'
2nd - Eleanor Webster with 'Hiv you seen the Farmer's Loon?'
3rd - Marion Masson with 'Some Day'

Hetty Milne 14/02/1932 - 04/04/2015

It is with great sadness that Elgin Writers announces the death of Hetty Milne, one of the co-founders of the Club. She died on the 4th April. Together with Eveline Wiseman and Patricia Bingham, she founded the Elgin Writers Club way back in 1986.
She always had a passion for writing and she will be sorely missed. She was our anchor and was always a good listener as well as an excellent storyteller.
