Season reconvenes 2nd March 2016

Current Events

19th February - Dinner at the Duffus Inn, Duffus. 7 for 7.30 pm.
Contact Christine for menu choices

2nd March - Opening night - memberships due

16th March - 'English as she is spoke and wrote' - a discussion on grammar lead by Nick Walker

30th March - Write on the Night - bring pens, paper or laptop to write something at the meeting
Closing date for Castles in the Air competition: 2000-4000 words
E-mail to Margaret Woodward or bring a hard copy on the night. Adjudicated by Jen Butler, SAW

13th April - A representative from The Northern Scot will be talking about journalistic writing techniques.

27th April - Members talking on a literary subject (no longer than 15 minutes to include questions). These need to be new items.
Closing date for Book Review competition - 250 words. List of books on competitions page. Adjudicated by Jane Sandell, Children's book reviewer for The Scotsman

11th May - Visit by SAW delegates Jen Butler and Jacklin Murray.

22nd June - Poetry workshop lead by Joyce Masson

7th Sept-Reconvene after the summer break. Never judge a book by it’s cover .
Closing date of summer competition: A day in the Life of... 1500—2000 words
14th Sept - Mairi Hedderwick—Running Away from Katie Morag—will be talking at the Moray Book Festival at 6.30pm.
We are sponsoring this author at the festival and although it is free, it is ticketed.

21st Sept Moira McPartlin will lead a workshop on ‘Plot—more than just a plan.’ .
Closing date for poetry competition—max 40 lines—people & places

5th Oct - Angela Oatridge will lead a workshop on ‘How to earn a few pounds while writing your book’

8th Oct - From Word to Kindle—a practical computing workshop led by Nick Walker at Lossiemouth High School 10-12pm

19th Oct Results and readings of ‘A day in the life of…’ & results of ‘People & places’ competition. Closing date poetry competition—Max 40 lines—Messages

2nd Nov Work in Progress. Bring a piece of writing - preferably duplicated- with which you are struggling and attach a sheet for constructive comments.
Closing date of article competition—800-1,000 words. Any theme. E-mail to Margaret W

16th Nov James Nock, archivist will show us round the archives in Elgin library and point us in the right direction for researching local history

30th Nov Annual General Meeting.
Results of Messages poetry and article competitions and poetry readings.

14th Dec Christmas dinner at Grant Arms, Fochabers (tbc)—No.10 bus stops right outside

1st Mar Reconvene for 2017 season. Memberships due

Latest anthology is now available at £6.50 a copy.
